For those of you who are in Hebrew class and might not have seen Pastor Olivetti's email, there is an updated homework assignment for class.
Pastor Olivetti will not be teaching on the 13th, so the homework will be due on the 20th. That homework is:
1. Be prepared for a quiz on Chapter 8 vocabulary and pronoun chart.
2. Do all the workbook exercises on Chapter 8.
3. Make and learn Chapter 9 vocabulary cards
4. Read Chapter 9 in the textbook and do the exercises on pages 39-46 in the workbook. You will be graded for effort, not perfection!
And let Pastor Olivetti know if you have any questions.
Dan
PS. Heather, I'm pretty sure you know more than just four people. For instance, Heidi and Abby Blackburn and Emma and Joshua Germond. That should make eight.

Staring Samuel Carr and Andrew Doerr as half the percusion section, without which athe orcestra would fall apart.

PS. Going back to a VERY OLD argument...
Sam and Andrew proposed, once upon a time, that Italian food was the best in the world because of its versatility and quality ingredients, among other things. But now I have found a COUNTERPLAN!
Yes, Italian food has an enormous range of soups, salads, entrees, desserts, and in general dishes containing cheese, pasta, tomatoes, and meat. But so does Greek food.
You hear that, Sam and Andy? How about Greek?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA beat that!

I beg your pardon. I didn't mean to offend anybody; it's just that you guys are way more diligent at checking this site than I probably ever will be. Just keep posting. It is one of the things that bring variety and amusement to me and my brother's lives. My previous comment was only a reference to frequency, not quality. Please forgive me if I was offensive and I will delete the comment if such be the case.

Don't worry, I'm not resurrecting the entire argument again. By the way, HAVE you ever tried Greek food? It's really good.

OLD ARGUMENT RESURRECTED (since we have a new member)
Orlando Bloom can't act.

My dream snow-project is a huge triangular snow fort with walls about six feet high by maybe five feet thick at the base, and an attached flying saucer ramp.
Also, I wouldn't say that Orlando Bloom can't act, but there's not much showing him to be a particularly good actor. I like Sean Connery better.
Speaking of Sean Connery, I saw a movie that he acted in as a young man. He's got way more of the handsome strong man character than Orlando Bloom.
Dan
PS. The Sean Connery movie is "Marnie" by Alfred Hitchcock.

-Orlando Bloom cannot act, period. No argument. He has two emotional settings, stoic and angry. The only reason he was good as Legolas was he could be stoic and didn't have to show any emotion.
-He's alright as Will Turner, but again, no emotion. He can convince me he's mad, but not that he's actually in love with Elizabeth.
-Guy can't act, nothing to it.

Heather,
There is a difference between "acting" and merely "trying to act," just like there is a difference between playing the piano and trying to play the piano. Orlando Bloom has at least tried to act, but how much of his performance constitutes real acting is debatable.
Dan
PS. Yes, Sean Connery does look really different as a young man. Almost nothing like Marko Ramius or Dr. Jones Sr.
PPS. Does this mean you have seen Marnie?
At 2:34 PM,
Gabriella Reed said…
okay, the piano thing: you are still playing the piano just like if you are "trying to act". lets just say you see a little kid pounding on a piano. i would go up to them and say, "you play beautifully!" so, therefore, even a little kid pounding on the piano is PLAYING THE PIANO. and orlando bloom IS acting. you can't "half act". thats like saying your half way down a cliff while you falling!
nope, never seen whatever-movie-you-said. but i have seen pics of him as a young guy.

Heather,
-You will have to admit that there is a BIG difference between a kid pounding the piano and someone playing Liebestraum. The guy playing Liebestraum definitly has more skill.
-Orlando Bloom is like the kid banging on the piano. His main skill is the ability to get teenage girls to fall all over him. A good actor can show a wide range of emotions, and can play more then one kind of part. Bloom fails the first, and barely squeeks by in the second.
Sam
PS. Jonny Depp is SO much better.
At 8:15 AM,
Lemony Snicket said…
I still say there is a difference between really playing and just trying to play. It's not real playing if you don't know how to play. Pounding on a piano is definitely not playing because 1) it doesn't make a good sound, 2) it ruins the instrument, 3) it's bad technique, and 4) it can end up hurting the kid who's "playing." Trying to do something the wrong way doesn't qualify as really doing it, except in the case of guys like Rube Goldberg and Harpo Marx.
As to how this connects to acting, Orlando Bloom doesn't really do a good job at acting. As far as we can tell, he doesn't really know how to show a wide range of emotion, and most of his roles are very much the same. So he can "act", per se, on a very limited scale, but it's just peanuts compared to "real" acting: versatility, vivid expression, living the character.

A little more information...
No matter what anyone says, pounding on a piano is NOT playing at all. Any piano teacher worth their salt will tell you that.
About Rube Goldberg and Harpo Marx:
Rube Goldberg is famous for building and/or designing elaborate contraptions for performing tasks; i.e. pull a lever and the machine automatically puts a golf ball on a tee, raises and waves an American flag, crunches a soda can and tosses it into a recycle bin, etc. It's not what you would normally be doing, but it gets pretty interesting.
Harpo Marx is one of the famous Marx brothers. He, as his name implies, plays the harp. But one time a guy found out that he wasn't playing the harp right. The way he tuned the harp strings and used the pedals was not the standard method. But he still "played" the harp, even though his method was nonstandard. But nonstandard methods by themselves are a different category than the difference between trying to do something and actually doing it.
